I related to parts of this chapter so much. Anyone who has a tendency to avoid, can end up so isolated. That's where I am in my life pretty much. I find passion in reading, making art, and learning about things. Lately I've been learning about tea. That passion is missing for Oblomov. What does he want? Only Oblomov can answer that.

“…that attendance at the office could not possibly be a kind of compulsory custom that you simply had to observe every single day and that slush, heat or mere disinclination would be adequate and legitimate grounds for non-attendance.” There are a lot of Oblomov’s in the workforce today, even highly educated, professional people. I am thankfully retired now, but, oh, how many of my working days were ruined, scrambling to compensate for one or more people absent for “I just need a mental health day.” I wasn’t a boss, but my job, among many, many other duties, included making sure all the spots were covered, and it had to be done fast because it involved supervising small children.
