I’m looking forward to hearing what your next Dickens read will be. I also started with Great Expectations (and then already decided I was a Dickens fan) and then Bleak House. The 3rd one was A Christmas Carol and my next one will be David Copperfield or Our Mutual Friend. I’ll see what my mood says when I get there. In a couple of months or so.
I’m glad you liked Bleak House! It’s one I think about often, and it’s high on my re-read list when my year-long project ends. I couldn’t get through the audio of Dominion. I’m not really sad about that. Something seemed off about it to me. Nice to see such a cool list of books!
I also love Ursula K Le Guin, and keep saying I will read more of her books. It was a book of short stories in high school that I feel in love with. I also read the Earthsea books, but there is a lot of her fiction I haven't read. I did read her poetry a few books on writing. Love how she thinks (or now thought.)
I read the Catherine the Great biography by Robert K Massie. This book by Montefiore is on my TBR list someday, but my TBR list is long lol. Glad you enjoyed it! It really helps to have some connection to what I am reading, and it's lovely you spent time in Odessa. A favorite author or mine has a book on Odessa that I haven't read yet. It's called "Odessa, Genius and death in a City of Dreams." So that's another book on my TBR list.
That edition of Roadside Picnic is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing the pictures of it. I do think a lovely edition would give me pleasure as I read, but I haven't acquired any of the Folio Society Editions.
It's interesting to read books again that we read when much younger. I'll be curious to know your thoughts about Silver on Tree by Susan Cooper. I'm listening to my first audiobook now, and the only way I can take it in, is if I've read the ebook or physical book chapter first. Otherwise audio just doesn't seem to stick. So I'm reading and listening to Moby Dick. I also have some books from my younger years I want to reread!
I was reading more history, then health stuff came along and smacked me lol. For the moment I've stopped with reading history, and meant to read The Lost History of Liberalism, but wasn't able to focus on history topics.
I'm glad to read about your month! Dickens and Plath are on my TBR list someday also. This is a lovely format to share your reads and thoughts. I hope you are having a wonderful April reading and look forward to hearing about it!
The Dark is Rising sequence is just so brilliant - I've read it over and over. I have those covers too! They're quite scary I think. And that's a gorgeous FS book.
I love your choice of books because some of them are my favorites. My generation in my country grew up on the Strugatsky brothers' novels. And everybody loves to read about Catherine the Great, especially about her lovers. The last book I read about her- Andrei Makine's novel. Simon Sebag Montefiore's Stalin, Dickens, and Dostoevsky are on my bookshelves. And Sylvia Plath. But didn't read Jared Henderson. Thank you.
