I’ll be reading Homer’s Odyssey over September and October as part of The Honest Broker’s Humanities Course. I’ve never read it, but have seen O Brother, Where Art Thou if that counts!
I’m reading Emily Wilson’s translation and, I have to say, it’s a lovely book. It has a long introduction (79 pages) and translator’s notes. I’m not sure that I’ll read the introduction first as they often contain spoilers. Then again, I could use the help as I know nothing other than what I learned from the Coen brothers’ movie!
This affiliate link will let you choose to buy this edition from Amazon, Blackwell’s, Waterstones or Bookshop.org.
And this affiliate link will do the same for the Norton Critical Edition, also translated by Emily Wilson, which I also have a copy of. It has the same introduction and is a lighter-weight and floppy paperback ideally suited for travelling, which is what I’ll be doing with it on my commutes. The paper is very thin, so may not hold up well to highlighters. I haven’t tried that yet, so don’t hold me to it, but it’s the copy I’ll be travelling with.
My video announcement for this read-along is here:

So, who’s in? I’m so excited for this!
Hope you enjoy. I will be leading slow reads of The Iliadand The Odyssey starting in January, one chapter per week.
