Description: Porfiry Petrovich was informally dressed in a dressing gown, a dazzlingly clean shirt and a pair of down-at-heel slippers on his feet. He was about thirty-five, slightly shorter than the average, clean-shaven, without moustache or side whiskers, with close-cropped hair on a large, round head with a particularly prominent bulge at the back. His chubby, round and rather snub-nosed face was of a pasty, dark-yellowish complexion, but had an affable and even rather mocking expression - which might even have been called good-natured were it not for the look in his eyes, which gleamed with a kind of pale, watery light under almost white, blinking eyelashes, giving the impression he was constantly winking at someone. This was oddly out of sorts with his somewhat womanish appearance as a whole, and gave him a rather more serious look than could be expected at first glance.
