I was sick and fascinated by the detail of that moment and it helps ground my understanding of the book. That is just one example, your addition of historical context to the book is much appreciated.
Yuri has been to war and now that he is back he feels his friends have changed. Yuri must have changed too, it's not really possible to go through such an experience and come back unaffected.
It was distressful to read all the hardships they are going through to stay alive, only to realize it keeps happening around the world💔
This chapter shows my perception of the book so far. Regarding politics Yury describes himself as being in the middle of the stream… not reaching either bank. I get a sense of his wanting to keep his family alive and remain connected to the land. Also people he knows keep showing up. People helping each other.
