Description: He was a very young man of about twenty-two, with a dark complexion and an expressive face which looked older than his years. He had something of the fop about him: he was fashionably dressed, well combed and freshly pomaded, with his hair parted at the back of his head, wearing a whole multitude of rings on his immaculately scrubbed fingers and with gold chains on his waistcoat. He even said a couple of words in very good French to a foreigner in the room.
